Are You Ashamed Of Your Scars?

Scars on my right knee recently reminded me of a previous motorcycle accident. That experience is still fresh in my mind. I should have died as a result of the accident, but here I am still alive. I was given a second chance to live.

I recall that afternoon, on my way home from a gathering, heavy rain continued to fall and made the road extremely slippery. Also, darkness gradually enveloped the road.  It was very sudden. I lost the balance of my motorcycle I scratched in the mud and spun several times before my knee hit a popping rock.

That's how I ended up with a scar on my knee. Every time I see the scar on my knee, I remember what happened that afternoon. I thank our Father that I am still alive.

We found in the scripture that the Son revealed to His sons and daughters the wounds on His hands and side (John 20:20).

However, some scars are visible and some are not. They are hidden in our hearts, perhaps as a result of betrayal, failure, or from someone who abused us. We often try to hide these scars because they remind us of past hurts.

Those hurts, on the other hand, could be a source of strength or a story to tell about how the Father brought us through, grateful to His unconditional love and sustaining grace. Instead of being disappointed by what we have gone through, let us adopt a new attitude.

The enemy is out to keep us from living our best lives, but the Father wants us to be victorious—trusting in the truth of His promise, "Neither will I leave you nor forsake you, and my grace is sufficient for you."

The back of the Son was slashed with many stripes, and His hands, feet, and side were pierced. But you'd be surprised that when He rose from the dead, His wounds didn't disappear, even though Abba could do it. But He chose not to. It conveys a significant message that we should consider.

Our scars from the past may not disappear. But, they will always remind us of the challenges we faced that shaped us into who we are today and made us always remember the Father's mercy on us.
