Hatyai To Satun Side Trip : Boripat Waterfall

By Ianpassion

I was passing the Rathaphum district from Hatyai (the main city in the south of Thailand) and approaching Satun, South of Thailand when a sign on the main road caught my attention. It was the Boripat waterfall. Out of curiosity, I turned to see what was inside.

It was already past  4:00 PM (Sunday) when I reached the main entrance. Misting rain welcomed me as I started heading inside. So I thought there might no people hanging out.

But to my surprise, upon arriving, motorcycles and cars were in the parking area.  No entrance fee.

My impression was that this place is not famous and not many people like to come due to its distance and isolation from the local community. Yet It was the opposite.

At the Parking Area with Mini Restaurants

At the parking lot, there are mini Thai restaurants where I could order Thai food to fill my hungry tummy. Restaurants like these, somtam, gai yang, and kao niyaw (spicy papaya salad, grilled chicken, and sticky rice) are available and sold at reasonable price.

Due to limited time, I decided not to eat and instead continued my trekking. The pavement bricks served as a pathway leading to where the waterfall was situated. I felt so amused by its pure tropical surrounding.

With a smile on my face, I greeted everyone whom I met. I moved my head in different directions viewing the wonders of nature. I could hear different choruses from various types of equatorial insects, crickets, and wild birds singing.

As I continued hiking, I could not refrain myself reflecting the wonders of the Father's love as He revealed this through His creation. A place like this is reflecting His creativity and Him being the Immanent to mankind.

When I almost arrived at the waterfall, I started hearing noises from the crashing river, splashing of waters, and people rejoicing. Some distance from where I was, I assumed people were having a picnic and enjoyed swimming.

Children Enjoyed Swimming at Boripat Waterfall

When I arrived...

Right in front of me was the waterfall. I was standing while my eyes were on kids rejoicing and playing in the waters. Wonderful. I did not imagine earlier on how beautiful and raw this place was. It was like a hidden paradise where families, friends, and children can freely hang out, grill, and build relationships.

Boripat waterfall has three drops from natural three huge rocks. It is not that high compared to the five most beautiful waterfall in Satun namely Wangsaithong waterfall, Dao kra jai waterfall,  Wangtainan waterfall, Saijai Waterfall, and Tarasawan waterfall. However, Boripat waterfall is the best place for children since it is easy to hike and has a portion where they can safely swim.

Before I left, I took closer shots on where the massive waters drop. I tried to get a perfect view. But, heavy rain started to fall and the trail was already slippery.

How I wished I could go up more little further,  but due to my limited time and the weather then I must leave. I will do it next time.
