As parents, we are not only responsible for preparing a "nest" for our children, a home where they feel loved, safe, and nurtured...but also for creating a spiritual environment where their beliefs can take root and grow. In a world increasingly shaped by secular culture, digital distractions, and values that drift far from the truth of the Almighty Father, we are called to raise our children intentionally, grounding them in wisdom and higher understanding.
The way we live, the way we offer guidance, the values we embody, and the conversations we have all contribute to shaping our children's spiritual awareness and connection with the Almighty Father.
My desire is not just to see my children succeed in this world, but to see them grow into mature individuals, men and women who carry the same fire and passion that we have. I want them to know the presence of the Almighty Father deeply, to stand firm in their beliefs when challenged, and to walk in wisdom and truth.
This reminds me of King David, a man described as being after the Almighty Father's own heart. He was a passionate seeker, a prolific poet, a gifted musician, and a mighty warrior. His legacy in cultural and national identity is undeniable. Yet, as a father, he struggled. He failed to pass on his spiritual legacy to his children in a consistent and intentional way.
David had a son named Amnon, who was consumed with lust and eventually violated his half-sister Tamar, the sister of Absalom. David did nothing to discipline Amnon...perhaps because the situation reminded him of his own past moral failures. This inaction led Absalom to take matters into his own hands; he murdered Amnon in revenge.
Later, Absalom himself led a rebellion against David, attempting to overthrow his own father’s leadership. His story ended tragically when he was caught in a tree and killed in battle.
Another son, Adonijah, tried to seize the throne during David’s old age, even though David had already chosen Solomon as his successor. Adonijah’s ambition ultimately led to his downfall and death.
What we see in David’s children are patterns of violence and unrestrained desires. Though David had a deep passion for the Almighty Father, he lacked consistency in guiding his children spiritually.
This serves as a sobering reminder: personal devotion does not automatically pass to the next generation. We must intentionally model integrity, nurture belief, and...most importantly..be present and available for our children. It is through our daily presence, thoughtful guidance, and faithful example that our children will come to understand the One we revere and seek.
Blessings to you, parent.
